The Covenant Movement

Catalyst is part of a broader movement, both nationally and around the world, known as The Evangelical Covenant Church.  Several values mark our tradition; these are things we are passionate about living out together:

  1. We are Biblical. Among other emphases from the Reformation is the idea of sola Scriptura. This means the Scriptures, God’s Word, is the highest authority in the life of the church—not some tradition or our culture or somebody who has a big nameplate on his office door.  We say around here, “Where is it written?”—meaning, “What does the Bible say?   We humbly search Scripture and then humbly do our best to align with and live out its truth.
  2. We are devotional. It’s not enough to believe truths about the Bible in your head—we must have a living faith in God.  God doesn’t invite us to a dry study of words on a page; God invites us into a relationship with him through the grace of Jesus Christ.  So we ask each other around here, “How’s your walk with the Lord going?”
  3. We are missional. It is not enough to know about God.  It is not enough even to know God.  We are called to join God in God’s mission to the world.
  4. We are connectional. Even joining God in mission is not enough.  We do it best by joining together.  That’s how we use the word “Covenant”—that we’re committed to each other, as mutual partners in God’s mission to the world.
